Our Families

When your child is diagnosed with cancer, your world stops.

Time and again, stories have emerged of families who have lost their home, their job, declared bankruptcy - simply because they needed to be with their suffering child. We provide small grants to help families with financial struggles so they can focus on what’s important - their child.

You Have Helped These Families

  • Amayah, 13, Indiana

Amayah was diagnosed with DIPG in July 2022. The cost of traveling to Chicago for a clinical trial and both parents needing to miss work in order to do so led to extreme hardship. The Violet Foundation has helped Amayah and her family with travel expenses and rent payments, where other foundations could not.

  • Arnetris, 14, Florida

Violet Foundation helped the family of Arnetris on two occasions. The first grant helped pay for utilities at a time when Arnetris was on a home ventilator and they were at risk of missing their electricity bill. The second grant sadly was to help with funeral costs. Violet Foundation is one of few non-profits that provide help in that difficult time.

  • Bennett, 5, Illinois

Bennett suffers from an Embryonal Neoplasm, which has required many hospital visits and admissions to treat. Violet Foundation helped with funds to offset the cost of transportation as well as daily living expenses.

  • Charlie, 9, Illinois

Charlie’s mother suffered a lack of income as she missed work for his treatments for Diffuse Midline Glioma. She fell 3 months behind on her mortgage and feared foreclosure. Along with another foundation, we caught her up on her payments and took this risk off her plate.

  • Cheyenne, 5, Kentucky

In 2024, Cheyenne received the same diagnosis as Violet - DIPG. The course of treatment involves six weeks of radiation, but the nearest facility was 133 miles away from her family home in rural Kentucky. Violet Foundation provided a grant to help cover fuel expenses for the journey.

  • Clare, 8, Ohio

Clare has responded relatively well to her treatments for DIPG, but has struggled with mental health as she undergoes precocious puberty and hears at school of kids whose grandparent died of cancer. Violet Foundation provided a grant to help with therapy visits to help Clare cope.

  • Destiny, 9, Kentucky

Destiny was diagnosed in early 2024 with DIPG, and her family moved close to the hospital for her treatment. Funds got tight and their truck broke down at the same time. Violet Foundation stepped in to help.

  • Gwendolyn, 5, Texas

Gwen had a lengthy hospital stay after she was diagnosed with DIPG in January 2024. Violet Foundation helped cover her medical costs as well as helped pay for her last family vacation.

  • Jade, 11, Illinois

Jade’s DMG diagnosis took away her ability to walk. Violet Foundation provided a grant to help her mother purchase an electric stairlift to use at their apartment.

  • Jaiden, 9, South Carolina

Jaiden experienced what many children with DIPG do - significant weight gain as the high dose of steroids creates a ravenous appetite beyond their control. His mother sought a grant to use as a down payment toward a larger car that could accommodate him.

  • Jayana, 4, California

Jayana’s family asked for help with a variety of regular household expenses - money to help pay for rent, utilities, and car repairs. Many families ask for this type of general assistance, as funds get tight after a parent stops working to care for their son or daughter.

  • Kelab, 7, Wisconsin

Kelab was diagnosed with DIPG, and his diagnosis and treatment came with significant medical bills. Violet Foundation stepped in to help cover some of those debts.

  • Kinleigh, 8, Pennsylvania

Kinleigh’s doctors recommended a second round of radiation treatments to stop her DIPG from progressing. The family needed funds to help cover the costs of the 240 mile roundtrip that they took 10 times over two weeks.

  • Knina, 18, Florida

Knina’s family sought help to pay for general expenses, including transportation needs for Knina, after she lost mobility due to DIPG.

  • Levi, 3, Illinois

Shortly after he was born, Levi was diagnosed with an Atypical Teratoid Rhabdoid Tumor, which is a rare and fast-growing tumor that typically develops in the cerebellum or brain stem. Now 3 years old, Levi has been in treatment at Lurie Children’s Hospital since April 2020. His parents just welcomed a second child over the holidays and they asked for help with living expenses from the Violet Foundation.

  • Madelyn, 7, Kansas

Madelyn’s dad owns his own mechanic shop and Mom is a stay at home mom of 4 small children. When they applied for help, her dad was very stressed about how they could afford radiation treatment along with their other bills. Being self employed, he faced the impossible task of knowing how much he needed to work to make ends meet, but that meant losing remaining time with Madelyn, who was diagnosed with DIPG. Violet Foundation’s grant helped to take a little of that pressure off.

  • Ryland, 5, Wisconsin

Ryland and his family received a Make a Wish trip to Disneyworld earlier in his treatment for DIPG. As the disease progressed however, Ryland wished to go back to Disneyworld one more time, and Violet Foundation was happy to help make it happen.

  • Seana, 23, Pennsylvania

Seana’s family wanted to travel from Pennsylvania to Boston for medical treatment, but funds were tight after Seana had already been in treatment for almost a year. Violet Foundation’s grant helped to pay for gas and Airbnb costs so she could get the expert help she needed.

  • Viviana, 6, Arizona

Viviana’s family moved from Arizona to Texas for a clinical trial, but doing so stopped their income and increased their expenses. Violet Foundation stepped in to cover daily expenses like food, car payments and insurance while they gave Viviana the best chance they could give her.

  • Waylon, 3, Kentucky

Waylon’s mom had worked since she was 16 years old, and thought she always would - until his diagnosis of DIPG turned her life upside down. Violet Foundation’s grant helped to pay for monthly living expenses while she took the time to take care of him full-time.
